The Benefits of Live in Care

07/07/2017

Many people assume that when a person grows old and infirm, that the best place for them is in a nursing home. While this is sometimes inevitable, it is not always essential that an older person be packed off to a nursing home to see out their days. Live in care is a great option for many people who want to remain in their own homes for as long as possible. It may also be the best choice where the nursing home is some distance away from the immediate family.

There are some very definite reasons for having live in care in place:

One-on-one care: you will unfortunately never get this care in a nursing home where there are many patients to few staff members. Staff are always rushed off their feet and seldom have time to spend with every patient. Live in care ensures that there is always someone with you, 24 hours a day, seven days a week, for as long as you need them. The carer’s time is devoted solely to your comfort and needs. It is a dedicated service which offers the client and the family peace of mind.

Companionship: live in care means that you never need to go out on your own again, whether it be to do the shopping, see a movie or pay the bills. You have a ready-made partner for Bingo! If you need assistance when opening heave doors into shops, the carer can be there for you. You have someone to talk to and plan visits with. You need never feel out of place for eating out alone, your carer will keep you company.

Home comforts: your carer will be able to take care of Fido and Fluffy, cook you the type of meals that you are used to, and either keep your home clean or arrange for someone to do it. If you like fresh flowers every Monday, the carer will be able to arrange this. Live in care ensures that you stay in the comfort of your own home, with all your own possessions around you, for as long as you like.

Routine: live in care ensures that you keep your own routine, and your independence for as long as possible.  Your daily routine of walking to the post box and back continues, along with any other routines which make your day special to you.

Friends: your friends are still able to visit you in your own home, instead of in a nursing home where there are many other people. You remain in the care of your local GP and be a part of your community.

Personalised Care: Your live in carer has been hand-picked to suit you and your needs. The agency you hire will meet with you or your representative to discuss exactly what you need and then select a carer who fits the role. The match will be made based on their skills and your requirements.

Pricing: Live in care can be more cost effective than a nursing home, especially if there are two people who require care. Even in the cases where there are two carers taking care of a couple, it still works out cheaper than having two people in a nursing home.
Live in care does not work for everyone, and sometimes there is a need for a nursing home, but on the whole, having a live in carer, and staying in your own home for as long as you want to, is a very good option.
