I am a 64 year old South African female looking for full-time, live-in care work. I have a British passport, carer liability insurance and have a DBS, which is on the update service. I have a drivers licence which is valid in UK for 1 year. Besides having 2 years of nursing experience in Cape Town, I hold a degree in Psychology, which includes Psychopathology (the study of abnormal behaviour) and have extensive care work experience. I have done the requisite training and have also completed the Care Certificate. I have worked in the UK as a carer for 13 years, during which time I have cared for clients with, inter alia, the following conditions: Hemiarthroplasty Paralysis Alzheimer’s Blindness/Visually challenged/ Hemianopia Cancer/Palliative care Dementia Renal failure Depression Suprapubic Catheter Extreme old age Stroke Prolapsed disc Incontinence Asthma Type 2 Diabetes Mellitus Compulsive-Obsessive behaviour Post Esophageal tear complications Parkinson`s Disease Mycobacterium avium complex (MAC) intracellulare infection Fractured wrist & intracapsular fracture (hip fracture) TIA (Transient ischemic attack/mini-stroke) Hypertension Nephrotic syndrome Macular degeneration Bilateral Dupuytren`s, contracture Sleep apnea Mild myotonic dystrophy Dysphagia Aortic stenosis Atrial fibrillation Rheumatoid arthritis Hypothyroidism Osteoporosis Osteonecrosis (Collapsed shoulder joint) Fractured thoracic vertebrae Thrombosis Digestive issues Oedema due to heart & kidney failure All the above clients required a range of different care and skills. I have also worked with catheters, conveen`s and suprapubic, Cpap machine`s, hoists (standing as well) and electronic beds, bath and chair lifts. I have dressed wounds, administered morphine and medications and handled wheel chairs and Zimmer frames. I have also done bed baths and the usual care for those who are incontinent. I have sourced pressure-care equipment as well as the necessary equipment to ensure the safety of my clients. I have also arranged visits by various medical personnel. On a general level, I have cooked, cleaned, shopped, run errands, cared for wild birds and hedgehogs assisted my clients with their admin and helped with laptop difficulties. I have arranged various doctor and hospital appointments as well as home visits by various health providers. I also encouraged physical activity both within the home as well as walk`s outside and arranged recreational activities for my clients. I have always found it easy to immerse myself in the role as caregiver and to give my clients the best possible care. I have a person-centered approach to the care of my clients. I endeavour to ensure their quality of life is the best it can be, be it with respect to their illness, disability, mental disorder, diets, recreational activities, their physical safety or their physical and emotional well-being. For me, every client is a unique human being with their own unique needs. Prior to leaving a placement, I write up very comprehensive notes about all aspects of the clients care for the incoming carer to ensure a smooth transitions for the client. My clients and their families have always been happy with the level of care that I have provided and have acknowledged that I have impacted positively on their lives. In terms of my interests/passions, these are: Classical music and concerts Photography Gardening Animals History Hiking Different cultures World news/events Human behaviour Nature with a special interest in insects, flowers and natural textures Documentary’s (nature, history, Autumn/Spring watch, monarchies/archaeology) Period movies, BBC Proms as well as the old favourites (Dad`s army/Keeping up appearances/The good life/Monty Python) Sports: rugby, soccer, tennis, F1, dance Architecture I have excellent references and these are available on request.
