My step-father was diagnosed with a tumour and faced a long battle. I cared for him in every aspect of his life, including, personal care, peg feeding and eventually end of life. I decided during this sad time that I found this career change very rewarding and looked beyond family care and ended up working with a lovely young man with cerebral palsy. He is quadriplegic and needed support in every aspect of his day. I did not ever see this as care work as he had many people who cared for him, he just needed support in achieving the things in life we all take for granted. Everyday I strived to make him believe that nothing was impossible. While it may have been done slightly different with his condition, we would always find a way around it. Even to the extent that he fulfilled his dream of being a Zoo Keeper for a day at Twycross I have worked with the elderly, complex care, cerebral palsy and SMA type II severe ...
