Job Description

Self-employed live-in Housekeeper/Carer required for a 57-year-old gentleman with Down Syndrome and early-stage dementia. 

We’re looking for a female (sorry we are unable to accommodate males) already living in the UK, with a “can do” attitude who loves and takes pride in her work.

You need to be a competent cook and enjoy cooking as you will be required to plan and cook healthy meals from scratch. 

You’ll be driving the gentleman frequently as soon we acquire a car that can carry him seated in his wheelchair, he loves going out, so a full UK license is ESSENTIAL. Your own car would be a big advantage as we do not currently have a car available for your own use. 

This position is roughly 60% housekeeping (cooking/laundry/a little ironing/keeping the house clean and tidy - basically whatever needs doing), and 40% carer.  

The gentleman has recently been awarded CHC, though we don’t yet know how much double care he has been awarded. 

You will always be working alongside at least one of his experienced carers, who manage his personal care mornings and evenings. 

He requires 2:1 care most of the time, has considerable mobility difficulties though is able to walk supported for short distances, he mostly uses a wheelchair.  You will need to assist with manual moving and handling, so it is essential that you are fit, healthy and fully able-bodied.  He is small (44 kg), quite childlike, playful and affectionate, he responds well to young energy and someone who is happy to sing, dance and play games with him.  

Your personality, energy and enthusiasm will be more important than your carer experience. You need to speak fluent (or nearly fluent) English, have a good sense of humour, be easygoing, but at the same time efficient and well-organised, and have an abundance of patience and a compassionate nature. We are a holistically minded family, eating organic food, using homoeopathic and natural medicines where possible, we would prefer applicants to be unvaccinated. The work rota is two weeks on, two weeks off. We live in a four-bedroom cottage with a shared bathroom in a rural location, less than five minutes drive to the nearest town (Holt), 15 minutes from the coast and 43 minutes from Norwich.
